Murph-the-Surf

This photo was taken of WO1 Bill Murphy by SP4 Wally Nunn early in the Winter of 1967/68. Bill is in the "AC's seat" of a Dolphin slick, and this was taken shortly before he joined the Shark gunships. Note in this photo the M-16 belonging to his co-pilot that is hung over the armor plate of the other pilot's seat. Pilot's Individual weapons were often hung over the seats like this during flight--not a good idea, really, for experience proved that in a crash they seldom stayed close enought to be found quickly and be removed from the aircraft. Note Murph's pistol belt is also hung over the armor plate on his seat. Close-up below. (Photo property of Wally Nunn)
